LifeGarden - The Final Words
LifeGarden is in the final stages of dissolution as a Contra Costa-based educational nonprofit organization. At this time we wish to express our greatest appreciation to the individuals, organizations and funding agencies that have supported our efforts to teach ecology and create more sustainable communities.
We are proud of our many accomplishments over the past ten years. These have included the development of publications promoting ecological understanding and protection of natural resources, an informative website and e-newsletters and the development of a comprehensive lending library of books and tapes on nature-based and region-appropriate horticultural practices.
Not only did we have a regular presence at community environmental events, but we also sponsored tours featuring farms and gardens owned by individuals whose growing practices reflected an understanding of the connection between the home garden/farm and the health of the larger environment.
Moving from the backyard to the larger community in our organizational focus, we provided habitat stewardship training for local citizens with the National Wildlife Federation and sponsored restoration events for youth along public trails. Most recently we installed the first interpretive signs along the Iron Horse Corridor in Walnut Creek. We have been advocates for watershed protection and served as a catalyst organization for the creation of a Walnut Creek Watershed Protection Advisory Group.
We will continue to further the mission of LifeGarden as individuals. We thank you sincerely for your part in our successes!
